destroyed television

Neil Kramer wrote some insightful essays back in 2007 about how television targets women that's relevant for today and worth re-visiting.

He makes some astute observations that will make you stop and think.

Neil Kramer essay screen grab

moon landing Neil Armstrong imag with Neil Kramer words

I grew up watching television. My Dad likes to tell the story about when I was 6 months old....he got me out of the crib to watch Neil Armstrong walk on the moon. In retrospect that seems to be the only thing that was really worth watching when I think of the hundreds of hours I wasted over the years.

I knew for a long time it was bad for my brain, but I still went back for more, rationalizing how entertainment like the History channel or Discovery was somehow immune to the mind numbing effect of the more low brow stuff. It wasn't until I retreated back to the woods of rural Appalachia that I finally woke up and saw the ugly truth behind everything the television spews.

Steve WIllner is interestingI still enjoy the occasional movie, but sadly most of what Hollywood chooses to create is unfit for my eyes and ears. This would be a good time to mention Steve Willner and his fascinating work with synchromysticism at his website Labyrinth of the Psychonaut. Mr Willner and his associates have created some compelling videos that carefully dissect some of the more sinister motives behind the imagery and symbolism that dominates both the big and little screen these days.

Jay Weidner said recently:"If a picture is worth a thousand words, then a symbol is worth a thousand pictures."

George Bush jr is funny

A lot of folks have said a lot of things about George Bush jr, but not many take notice of his advanced sense of humor.

It's no wonder this "space alien" decided to back Bush for president.

Kaku Super String

Want to learn a thing or two about time travel, teleportation, or simultaneous existence? A fun and easy way to make that happen is to listen to a weekly radio show hosted by Michio Kaku by the name of Explorations.

Dr. Kaku is a theoretical physicist and my all time favorite popularizer of science. Many people out there consider him to be towards the top of the smartest people on the planet list, not just because he looks good on television, but more for his incredible talent of distilling down esoteric concepts to a level that's easy to understand and fun to listen to.

In November of 2007 he reaffirmed his belief on the Coast to Coast radio show that there is a 100 percent probability of extraterrestrial life out there in the universe. It might be the most grounded statement on life beyond our planet, but Michio is quick to point out the vast distances between possible locations and doesn't seem to put much credibility to the hypothesis that other life forms have already visited Earth and may be watching us right now.

Explorations is a great place to stay up to date on the latest developments in science, technology, politics, and the environment. You can actually feel your brain expanding as his words add more understanding to a world view that is becoming more and more complete with each episode.

Humor credit goes to David Farley and his Doctor Fun web comic series.

 tin foil hat facts

Back in 2005 four M.I.T. students teamed up to apply some of the school's expensive testing gear to a few different tin foil hat designs. The intention was to determine if any effect can be measured with foil on one's head and what level of protection it might provide.

I give them an A for taking advantage of the facilities to further learn how a piece of equipment might operate and prove a real world point.

They discovered that a tin foil helmet actually amplifies frequencies between 1.2 and 1.4 Ghz. According to the FCC these channels are reserved for GPS signals and other satellite communications.

I've never actually seen anyone wear a tin foil hat and I'm pretty sure it's just an urban myth, but it seems like the conclusion of the experiment was that not only does a tin foil hat reduce your chances of meeting a nice girl in college but it can increase small electromagnetic fields within millimeters of your brain. Don't do it...not even as a joke for Halloween.

On a more serious note this might suggest that one could make a tin foil helmet for a hand held GPS unit to increase a weak or no signal situation.
